The report says (in Spanish):
For this holiday season in the city of Medellín (Colombia) the work of anti-animal cruelty squad has been intensified. This obeys the Municipal Agreement No. 49 of 2003, "which prohibits the killing in public and private properties which are not authorized of larger species such as goats , cattle and horses and lower species such as pigs and poultry in public."
Colombian Animalistic Councilman Álvaro Munera - who led the management - reminds the community that "marranadas" (the killing of pigs) have been banned since 2003. The reasons are several: one of them has to do with health, as a pig killed on the street has no control premortem or postmortem; in other words, it is not assessed for any veterinarian if the animal is healthy or contains any dangerous bacteria that may affect the human brain to cause death.
The squadron animal anti-cruelty goes around the whole city, raising awareness and monitoring the streets and in violation of the rules tough sanctions will be applied. It is expected that during 8, 24 and 31 December, dates where the rate of animal sacrifice is increased, it will be diminished to goal "Zero".
Good for the city of Medellin! It is giving a great example and showing that these public sacrifices, (like bullfighting) are not cause for pride or recreation nor a cultural activity of a city or a country.
